Emerson provides innovative solutions for customers in industrial, commercial, and consumer markets through its network power, process management, industrial automation, climate technologies, and commercial & residential solutions businesses. Emerson consistently ranks as one of the largest corporations in the Global 500 and US 500 lists by Fortune magazine. It is also recognized as one of the “World’s Most Admired Companies” by Fortune, coming fourth in the electronics industry category. In 2015, Emerson is recognized as one of the “Top 100 Global Innovators” by Thomson Reuters for its commitment to innovation, protection of ideas and commercialization of invention. David N. Farr was ranked among the best CEOs in America by Institutional Investor magazine for five consecutive years from 2008 to 2012.

China is among the fastest-developing regions for Emerson’s businesses. Since 2002, China has been the second largest market for the company next to the US. In fact, Emerson entered China as early as the late 1970s through a technology transfer, and in 1992 the company established its first wholly foreign owned enterprise in China. In October 1993, Emerson Electric (China) Holdings Co., Ltd. was formed, and Emerson became the first US firm ever to set up a company of an investment nature headquartered in Shanghai. From then on, Emerson’s investments have grown substantially in China. Emerson Electric (China) Holdings Co., Ltd. was qualified as Emerson China headquarters by Ministry of Commerce of China in 2004 and by Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 2002 successively.

Emerson has set up more than 40 legal entities in China, 23 of which are manufacturing facilities, and operate in 14 locations Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Fuzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Jiangmen, Chengdu, Mianyang, Shenyang, Nanjing, Zhuhai and Xi’an. Emerson focuses on driving continuous technology and engineering innovation. To meet the Chinese, Asian and global customers' needs, Emerson has also established 22 engineering centers in 13 cities. In addition, Emerson has been expanding and strengthening its Asian procurement presence in China.

Emerson is responding to the four global trends as of energy efficiency, communications revolution, resources for the world and business without borders. Regarding energy efficiency, as early as December 2004, Emerson signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Standardization Administration of China (“SAC”), establishing a framework for cooperation which includes research, formulation and revision of energy efficiency standards and regulations, holding symposiums, as well as introducing key energy efficiency standards and regulations from other countries to the local market to be used and adopted by local experts. Meanwhile, Emerson’s collaboration with the Chinese government continued through further promoting energy efficiency and conservation in China. For example, Emerson Climate Technologies assisted SAC and Chinese National Institution of Standardization to promote energy efficiency as well as the public awareness of energy labels; cooperated on a website to promote this initiative; and sponsored Air Conditioner Energy Efficiency Symposium. Continuing its efforts in industry stewardship, Emerson Climate Technologies hosted the annual contest in air-conditioning system designs in China for 13 consecutive years since 2002. Emerson’s products and services address environmental issues in three ways including enabling efficient use of energy, supporting cleaner forms of energy production and providing technologies that monitor and limit emissions.

Emerson also supported the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China with its products. Emerson Network Power provided uninterruptible power supply, precision air-conditioning and power supply systems to the World Expo site. The Spanish and Hong Kong pavilions adopted Copeland digital scroll compressors for the air-conditioning system. Emerson also supported the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The Laoshan Velodrome and the Broadcast Tower used Copeland digital scroll compressors for the air-conditioning system and the buses in the Olympic Village used Emerson’s energy saving and efficient compressors. The China National Stadium (‘Bird’s Nest’) also featured telecom power systems from Emerson Network Power and invertors from Emerson Industrial Automation. Emerson’s automatic transfer switch systems and servo drives supported all swimming events at the National Aquatics Center (‘Water Cube’). Emerson Process Management pressure regulating systems and Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions shelving systems were adopted in the major devices and facilities, including the Olympic flame and the reception center of the National Stadium.

To meet the rapid development of businesses in China, Emerson invests in comprehensive and diversified leadership training programs for talent development. Externally, as in the US, Emerson’s partnership programs with leading China universities include several MBA scholarship programs, research sponsorships for PhD candidates and internships. Emerson also deploys its executives as visiting professors and guest speakers to various academic institutions presenting topics including the “Emerson Management Process” and leadership.

Emerson has a long-standing commitment to its corporate citizenship efforts in China through its involvement in various programs, including: the Project Hope education scheme, Lifeline Express for eye patients, New Great Wall project, Water Cellar for Mothers water collection systems, Sichuan and Qinghai earthquake-affected areas relief programs, Shanghai World Expo 2010, Beijing Olympics 2008 and various other volunteer programs. Emerson also put environmental protection and energy conservation into its corporate strategy. Furthermore, the company launched the Emerson China Charitable Program, covering the three key areas of education, health and human services, and civic. The year 2013 is the fifth anniversary for Emerson China Charitable Program since its launch in China. It has been highly recognized and praised by various communities including: Multinational Corporation with Contribution to Public Welfare in China 2013 (2013), “China Women Charity Award” by the All-China Women’s Federation and China Women’s Development Foundation honoring Emerson’s support to Water Cellar for Mothers project (2012), Best Case Award in Corporate Social Responsibility by the Shanghai Association of Enterprises with Foreign investment (2011), Special Contribution Award in Corporate Social Responsibility by the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, China Charity Federation, China Private Economy Research Center and China Enterprise News (2010) and “Project Hope 20th anniversary excellent charity partner” by the China Youth Development Foundation (2009), etc.
